ACDB, DCDB & DB Boxes — FAQs

What is a DCDB in a solar system?

A DCDB (DC distribution box) sits between the solar panels and the inverter. It holds the DC breakers or fuses for each string, a DC surge protector and often an isolator, so the array is protected and can be switched off safely.

What is an ACDB and do I need one?

An ACDB (AC distribution box) sits between the inverter output and your main distribution board. It gives the inverter its own breaker, a surge protector and an isolation point. Most installers fit one on every solar system.

Can you build a box to my specification?

Yes. Send us your inverter rating, number of PV strings or circuits, and preferred breaker brand, and we will quote a box to match.

What information do you need for a quotation?

For a DCDB: the number of strings, panel Voc and Isc, and inverter MPPT inputs. For an ACDB: inverter kW and phase. For a DB box: the number of circuits, supply phase and any RCCB or SPD requirement.
